Iām on my first long haul flight for a few years and Iām reminded about the incredible plastic waste caused by airport āsecurityā. Passengers come off a plane with a āfreeā plastic bottle of water, are forced to throw it away at security, then have to buy another plastic bottle of water to get them through the waitā¦if thereās anyone reading your blog who can think how to improve this vast waste of water and plasticā¦please, make your move!
It's madness isn't it!! It's also very complicated... I get the need for security and biosecurity restrictions for sure, but there has to be a better way. Encouraging reusables is one of course.
I take my own (empty) bottle with me, fill it up when Iāve been through security, and say no thanks to extra bottles if I can. Airports in Australia and Aotearoa often have water bottle filling stations.
